Are You Struggling to Pass GCSE English Language?

GCSE English Language is challenging and often the requirement for a pass proves prohibitive to many students. At School and Colleges throughout the country many young people are being forced to resit a subject that they hate! Many students just can’t pass at a Level 4 and this can have a detrimental effect on their future prospects. Many University Courses and Apprenticeships require a Grade 4 at GCSE in English or an equivalent qualification.

The key is in the words, “equivalent qualification.” Many students are not aware that there is an alternative to having to resit GCSE over and over again. Not only is this demoralising, but it is limiting all hope for some of our young people.

This November, VB Tutoring is offering a private alternative that may be the answer to the gateway of opportunities available. This is a Level 2 Functional Skills English Qualification. You can say goodbye to having to analyse fictional unseen texts and produce your own narrative and welcome the refreshing alternative that allows you to learn practical skills. You will learn real life skills like reading information texts and writing emails, letters and blogs. This qualification still requires you to read for meaning and to write clearly but it does so in a more practical way by supporting you with texts that you may have to navigate in your day to day life.

There is a much higher success rate for students taking Functional Skills rather than GCSE and it takes less time to prepare for the examinations. There is also greater flexibility as you can sit the examination online and whenever you feel ready. GCSE can only be sat in the Summer or November but Functional Skills can be entered throughout the year and there is no limit to the amount of times you take the test. There is an average pass rate of 80% meaning that there is a more hopeful pathway. If you know the University Course or Career Pathway you want to take, then do your research; some courses such as Teacher Training require GCSE and will not accept a Functional Skills Qualification. However, many courses do, so it is worth considering as an alternative.
